How to prepare for Ustrasana Camel pose is a deep How to prepare for Ustrasana

Camel pose is a deep backbend and it can feel challenging at first. My best advice, don't feel intimidated and work consistently at the pose.

Here a map of poses designed to help you in your journey to Ustrasana

Sit on your heels

1) Puff up the chest, shift the gaze backwards, engage the core and press the hands into the feet

2) From a knee position please a yoga block between the legs
Puff up the chest, belly in, support the lower back with the hands, push the hips slightly forwards and shift the gaze backwards

3) Same as above but without the block between the legs. Try to remember the feeling of having the block while performing the pose without.

4) Camel pose supported by blocks in 3rd position
Hips slightly forward, chest puffed up, gaze backwards and image to squeeze a ball between the legs

5) Same as above but with the blocks in 2nd position

6) When you feel ready try camel pose

Hold each pose 5 to 8 breaths and try to practice them frequently.

My handstand journey, is to say the least,  discouraging and a daily piece of humble pie.

I practice daily and I struggle daily.

My body isn't ready yet, so I keep my head down and I show up. At least I have fun.

Mine:
I grew up in a small town in the North East of Italy, 15 minutes away from the seaside.
My mummy and daddy were bakers and I have an older brother. He is handsome, smart and annoying. 

My biological father died when I was 7 and I met my dad when I was 10. My mummy, smart woman, married my best friend.

I lived abroad most of my life but we are very close.

⚽ All around core workout ⚽ The Core are made ⚽ All around core workout ⚽

The Core are made up of 29 muscles in our mid- low back, pelvic floor, butt, hips and they are the source of every move we make.

Here six exercises to awaken the entire core muscles groups.

1) Back core, cobra lifts: Place the mini core ball underneath the forearm and roll up. Push the ball down

2) Stabilizer: plank pose with the mini core ball underneath one hand. Performing the plank on an unstable surface increases core muscles activity. Paddle the plank and then lift one leg. Repeat both sides.

3) Side core: Place the mini core ball underneath the side body and crunch to the side. Repeat both sides.

4) Side core: my absolute favourite transversal abs exercise. You are going to love love/hate it. Same set up as above but this time lift the arm underneath. It's so hard. Repeat both sides.

5) Frontal, back core and psoas activation

6) Psoas activation. Crunches with the core mini ball in our back. By arching the back we will have to fire up the deeper level of our own lives core to come up.

Repeat each exercise x 1 minute

My name is Elena, I am a certified Ashtanga Vinyasa Instructor based in East London.

I have been practising Yoga Since 2001 and teaching since 2015.

I survived to over twenty five years of eating Disorders, and I Coexist with Borderline Personality Disorders.
